If you want to learn all about roulette bets and odds, you’re at the right place! Roulette is an insanely popular table game, but you need to get a good comprehension of the roulette rules, bets, odds, and payouts. Let’s get started and learn all about the inside bets and the outside bets as well. What is the best bet in roulette? Read our guide to find out.
The Inside Bets
Let’s start with the inside bets first. The first thing you need to know about the inside bets is that the winning chance is rather small, but it has amazing payouts for winners. The inside bets we’re going to discuss here are the Line Bet, the Five-Number Bet, Corner Bets, Street Bet, the Split Bet, the Straight Bets. We also determined the exact odds for each of the bets with a roulette odds calculator.
The Line Bet | Six Numbers
To place this bet, you shall be required to place the roulette chips at the periphery of the two rows where they are joined. This bet normally covers all the figures in either row for a total number of six. There are usually 11 likely line bets that you can place at any roulette table, and you will win if the roulette ball lands on either of the six numbers.
For example, we have bet E as shown above. This bet has odds of 37 to 6 and pays off at a ratio of 5:1
The Five Number Bet | The Green Bet
This is a special bet in that, it’s the only type of bet that you can place on the American Roulette wheel. The bet usually covers five numbers, 3, 2, 1, 00 and 0 on the American Roulette table. To place the five number bet, you will have to place your roulette chips on the outside line that divides the 0 and 1. You win your bet if any of the five numbers show up when the roulette wheel stops. The pay off ratio for this type of bet is 6:1 meaning for every unit spent at the table, you win $6!
Corner Bets | Four Numbers
To place a corner bet, you shall be required to place the roulette chips at the intersection of four numbers and where all these four numbers are covered. On the roulette table, there are possible 22 corner bets that you can easily pick at any given time. If your roulette bet lands on any of the four numbers, you win!
A good example of a corner bet is illustrated above. The intersection of the four numbers, 25, 26, 28 and 29 will make a good corner bet. Another example will be at the intersection of numbers 31,32, 34 and 35. The bet has odds of 37 to 4 and pays off at a ratio of 8 to 1.
Street Bet | Three Numbers
To place a street bet, you will have to place your roulette chips at the end of any row of numbers on a line separating the outside and inside betting area. The street bet will cover up to three numbers, usually consisting of an entire row of the table. When learning how to play online roulette, you can place up to 14 different street bets, and you win if the roulette ball lands on any of the three numbers.
In our example, the street bet covers numbers 19, 20 and 21. Other examples include numbers 10, 11 and 12, numbers 25,26 and 27 among many others. The street bet is the third desirable type of bet on the roulette table and usually has odds of 37:3 and pays off at a ratio of 11:1
The Split Bet | Only Two Numbers
To place the split bet, you shall be required to place your roulette chips on a line between any two numbers of your choice. This makes it have the highest possible combination of 57 bets at any given table.
Your bet is won if the roulette ball lands on any of the chosen numbers. In our example above, the split bet is at the boundary of number 11 and 14. The odds of the split bet is usually 37:2 and pays off at a ratio of 17:1
The Straight Bet | One Single Number
This is the straightforward bet on the roulette table. It usually involves placing your chip on any of the 37 numbers including the zeros. This makes the possible combinations of the straight bets to be 37, and you win if your number comes up when the roulette ball lands on it.
A good example is number 31, or you could decide to choose number 36 instead. At the odds of 37 to 1 and payoff ratio of 35:1, straight bets are the most attractive bets though they are the hardest bets to win. To increase your chances of winning the straight bet, it’s usually recommended that you place multiple bets at a go. For example, you could choose to bet on numbers 2, 11, 20 or 35 all on different bets.
The Outside Bets Meaning
What is the outside bets meaning? The second major group of roulette bets are the outside bets. The outside bets have a higher odds of winnings in comparison to the inside bets, but the winnings are significantly smaller. Here we’re going to discuss the Low or High Bet, the Odds or Even Bet, Black or Red Bet, the Dozen Bet, the Column Bet.
When we talk about roulette bets and odds, the outside bets are perhaps more popular than the inside bets, because your chances of winning are higher. Let’s explore them here!
The Low or High bet | Covers Eighteen Numbers
This bet normally splits the field of numbers into two separate groups. The numbers ranging from 1 through to 18 (low) and the numbers ranging from 19 through to 36 (high). Therefore, when placing the high or low bet, you shall simply be betting that the number, which shows up, will be in the range of 1 – 18 or the range of 19 – 36.
However, take note that should a zero or double zero show up, you will lose your bet. Also, note that due to the nature of the outcome, the low or high bet has the lowest odds of 37 to 18 and pays off at a ratio of 1:1.
The Odd or Even Bet | Covers Eighteen Numbers
To place an odd or even bet, you simply place your chips on the outside area indicated by the odd or even mark. You shall simply be betting that the next number to show up on the field will either be odd or even with the exclusion of the zero or double zero. If they happen to show up on your next spin, you shall lose the bet.
Just like the high or low bet, the odd or even bet pays off at odds of 37 to 18 and has a pay off ratio of 1:1
Black or Red Bet | Eighteen Numbers
Just as the name suggests, the black or red bet simply involves placing your bet on either the black or red numbers on the roulette table. If for example, you place a bet on the next colour to show up is red and a black colour shows up, you lose the bet.
The zero and double zero are green in colour, and they are not covered under the black or red bet. If they, therefore, show up on your next spin, you lose the bet. Just like the first two outside bets, the black or red bet pays off at odds of 37 to 18 and has a pay off ratio of 1:1
The Dozen Bet | Covers up to Twelve Numbers
The Dozen bet usually covers three regions on the roulette table. The three regions are usually annotated as 1st 12, 2nd 12 and lastly 3rd 12. What this simply means is that you win a bet if say you’ve placed your bet on the first twelve numbers, and the ball lands on a number within the first twelve numbers.
Consequently, there are only three types of dozen bets and pays off at odds of 37 to 12 and has a pay off ratio of 2:1.
The Column Bet | Covers up to Twelve Numbers
To place this type of bet, you simply choose the region on the roulette table marked with the “2 to 1” mark at the end of the columns. In the column bet, neither the zero nor the double zero are included in the column bet, and if they happen to show up, you lose the bet.
The roulette rules state that the column bet has a pay off ratio of 2:1 and odds of 37:12.
Placing Your Bets – What You Need To Know
Once you’ve learned the roulette bets and odds, and you’ve placed your bet at the table, the croupier will spin the wheel and throw the ball in the opposite direction of the wheel’s motion. After a few seconds, the dealer will announce “no more bets,” meaning that you or any other player for this case cannot place another bet. Any bet placed after the announcement shall be void and the player shall be refunded their full amount!
Once the roulette ball stops on a number, the dealer will take a crystal-like marker and place it on the number that was hit. He/she will then proceed to clear all the losing bets and pay the winning ones. All the inside bets shall be paid directly to the rightful winners, while the winning outside bets shall be placed next to the successful bets on the felt.
Take note that you shouldn’t under any circumstance touch, the board or your bets, or the winnings that will be paid on the outside bets until the dealer has removed the crystal marker from the felt. If you wish to get a tongue-lashing from the pit boss through your device, then try this!
